Born on 13th November, 1971 in Jalandhar, he did his entire schooling from his hometown and excelled both in academics and extracurricular activities. He won the prestigious National Talent Search Exam Scholarship and topped India in Xth CBSE in Science apart from getting overall aggregate percentage of 93.6%. He has been the Head Boy of his school (Apeejay School, Jalandhar) and the captain of the school cricket and volleyball team. Mr. Mahajan has won several State Level and National Level prizes in quiz-competitions and debates.
Mr. Mahajan got selected in the prestigious IIT JEE and Roorkee University entrance exams. However, he preferred joining Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh as a topper in Electronics and Electrical Communications and got picked up by Siemens and TCS at a lucrative package during campus placement but he chose to opt for Civil Services and secured an All India Rank of 22 in the prestigious Civil Services Examination.
Mr. Mahajan has served six districts as Collector and District Magistrate and in his nearly ten years as District Chief, he has had the privilege of being the Collector and District Magistrate of State Capital and also the Collector and DM of Hon’ble Chief Minister’s home district (Jodhpur). Apart from being DM of Ajmer, Jodhpur, Churu, Dausa & Sawaimadhopur.
He has been awarded the best Collector State Award for his stint in Ajmer and also got the National Award for the pioneering work in NREGA in Ajmer from the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. His field level initiatives on Water Harvesting in the largely arid district of Churu were widely acknowledged by the State Government, NABARD and National Level Water Experts.
He has held prestigious stints like being MD of RIICO, Project Director of ADB funded Urban Infrastructure Works and Finance Secretary of State Budget where he has been instrumental in piloting new initiatives and reforms in urban, investment and public procurement sectors.
Mr. Mahajan is fond of sports, music and travel. He has played cricket at Punjab University Level during his college days but now he mostly plays tennis and has consistently won State Level Tournaments in Lawn Tennis. He has even clinched the National Gold in Tennis Doubles (Open Category) two years back in All India Services Tournament.
